Large Spalted Sugar Maple Vase with rotten center

Every once in a while you come across a truly unique and special piece of wood that is already a work of art in and of itself. This piece of spalted rotten sugar maple was a rare and lucky discovery that when turned, dispayed all of the "imperfections" that actually make it so stunning. The inside of the vase is painted black to attract the eye towards the outside of the vase, which is finished with a laquer spray to allow the grain and patterns to shine. This beauty was recently selected as the 3rd place winner at the Adrirondack Artist Guild's spring juried show and meausures 15" x 13".
