Sold - Large Birdseye Spalted Natural Edge Maple Vase
This birdsye maple vase is one of the most distinctive pieces I have ever turned. It has all kinds of character! The birdseye figure is rare; in nature, the reason for its occurence is not even fully understood. Also, the wide mouth has spalting lines that add to the uncommon aspects of the vase. To top it all off, the center pith of the tree from which it came was rotten, giving true meaning to the old "trash-to-treasure" adage. I had to turn this piece from both the top and bottom to achieve what I wanted to and I used a black plug of epoxy to fill in the bottom. Hand finished with all natural walnut oil, this original beauty measures 14"x12".
